Living things is a very purposefully vague title. I felt that my imagined (cloudy) landscapes were separate even than my images of trees. I lumped trees in with people, animals, vehicles, and anything that changes at a slower pace than the weather. These are also generally more realistic images, readable and knowable. All of these paintings were done with watercolor on waterproof paper. I use paint out of the tubes, layer thickly and then remove with water to develop shapes. I work vertically and I spray my paintings with water often because why not? I spend almost as much time deconstructing my paintings as constructing them. I want them to feel like a memory or a part of a family history.
